Tell us about your experience with/connection to Fibro

When I was 8, I developed Sublexing Patellas (or dislocating kneecaps) which wasn't too bad until I got to middle school when they started dislocating fairly regularly, so I decided to have a relatively minor surgery (just on the left to start) to try to help it. About a month after the surgery, my knee started hurting and it wouldn't go away. At first, they thought it was Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) but about a month later, the pain spread to my right knee, and then within the next month, it spread to my entire lower body. And then within a month of that, it was everywhere. All of that happened when I was 12, and I’ve been wrestling with Fibro every since.  (I'm 23 now)

My full name is Stephanie but ever since I was little, my family & friends have called me Stephie, a term of endearment my Gramma started that I'm happy to continue :) I was born & raised in New England until I was 8 and we moved to Northern California for family issues. I have an amazing, loving, insanely supportive group of family & friends that I am thankful for everyday. They are what keeps me going. I also have a 6 year old Greyhound/Yellow Lab mix named Charlie & 2 kitties, a blond one named Champy (his former owners named him Champagne for his coloring) and a torbie & white one named Lia. They always know how to make mommy feel better, I’m very fortunate to have them too.

I graduated high school in 2004 and spent a semester at Arizona State University until a flair-up forced me to move back to California. I was able to go back to ASU for 2 more semesters and tried to do a couple semesters at the local CCs, but school has been put on hold these days thanks to the Fibro continuing to get worse & worse. Now we’re just looking for a way to get me through the days.

Since I've had the Fibro since I was 12, I haven't really been able to have a 'real' job. I've been able to do small things, like help my mom & her fellow teachers grade papers.
