Sleep Disorders and Fibro

"For the fibro-mytes that just don't get enough shut-eye. Insomniacs, narcoleptics, DSPS-sufferers,  sleep apne-apes, and RLS'ers: let us unite together with the good brew that is caffeinated....coffee. Forget the pillows and sleeping partners, let us gather and forget the one thing that ails us, sleep."

Hey all, struggling bigtime at present with the insomnia. Something weird happened this evening at work which I think is down to tiredness, I just kinda zoned out, it was like I didn't fit into my surroundings, very surreal and scary, echoing voices etc. Odd. Driving is scaring me too and my memory and concentration practically nonexistent. I keep having conscious blackouts if that makes sense.... like being on autopilot. I arrive at places without knowing how I got there, forget everything and am frightened that i'll end up hurt or in trouble because of it.

The G.P has given me sleeping tabs but they're not working, I average 3-4hours per night of broken sleep and it's been that way for months now, kinda got used to it but it can't go on.

People don't or can't grasp the seriousness of the situation I think, only you guys can understand. I'm not asking for someone to fix me cos it's all part and parcel of the condition, just needed a moan to people who get me!

I've never been happier though, strangely!

Hi, I am new to the WeAreFibro.org and saw this Community and boy is it ever appropriate for me!  I probably get around 4-5 hours of broken sleep a night.  Yesterday was the first day that a Rheumatologist finally gave me the diagnosis of FM and his first method of "officical" treatment for this is Cyclobenzaprine.  It is supposed to help me sleep more through the night without pain... which is what wakes me up through the night.  Has anyone ever taken this?

Hi all, sorry I have not been around lately. On this particular subject I am SOOOOO glad that amitryptiline is a generic because I have lost my health insurance for now. I can still afford the amitryptiline. It is good to sleep even when the rest of life sucks!

Hello, I know what it is like to see the clock keep changing instead of your eyes closed for restful sleep!

I no that from the passed..... I and other Fibro people I have met that are drinking LIMU, all noticed restfull sleep almost right away for some! Many have been able to get off some very big drugs for all sorts of things!

I was lucky enough to have a friend who shared the information with me that has changed the quality of life; so am passing on the information to you all and what you do is up to you!

    Jennifer,
Same here!!! I never slept well as a child and it's 3;23 am right now and who knows if I'll sleep tonight. I went to a sleep clinic and that is where I got my fibro dx.The doc said I would probably never find a med to help me. He was right , tried them all to no avail. Closest thing to helping is xanax. It doesn't help with sleep but at least I'm more relaxed while trying to sleep. Turn off the computer and put down the book????!!!!!What?????
People just don't understand that sometimes youCAN'T JUST LAY THERE ANY LONGER!!!

Jennifer, I certainly understand. I can usually function all day and ignore the pain. But the minute I stop the pain just seems to wash over me. I can't get comfortable but I am so tired I could scream. I take meds and they seem to work. But I have noticed that it takes more and stronger meds the older I get. I tried that melatonin one time. Wow...was that a mistake...I HATED bedtime. It made me anxious and nervous. So much for that idea. If I didn't take the sleep meds I would be up all night but feeling much worse for the wear!

I haven't slept well, ever since I was a child. I could read a book all night as long as I layed down it would fake my body into you just slept mode. I reckonized this since about 11 years old. Then as I grew older I started taking night jobs 10-6/11-7, just so no one would catch on. No sleep for 4 or 5 days then a crash of 4-5 hours total blackness( a bomb couldn't wake me up). I tried all kinds of sleep meds with nothing helping. So I just read, or play on puter all night. What else can I do? I don't drink coffee or sodas I drink water.I even tried changing my diet, that hasn't worked either.
I know you need sleep with fibro, but what can you do when it just won't come? I even went to a sleep specialist this smart @ss said shut computer off put away the book and go to bed, whatever!!!!!!!!!! I wish he knew what fibro was and the pain and aches even laying down causes.
