self-imposed deadlines and rules can spoil the fun

I often find That I set arbitrary deadlines for myself; including setting rules for myself in my leisure activities. For example, I may tell myself that I may not knit a new project until I have completed the 2 others I already have on the needles, etc. Or I may force myself to knit more rows on a project when I know my sore joints need a rest.

I have been trying to be more aware of when and why I do this sort of self-limiting!

My artwork and knitting are SUPPOSED to be calming and therapeutic and enriching. These activities are for me, most of the time a sanctuary. yet, when my little task-master voices infringe upon the "process" I find the joy disappears for me.

Who cares if I have a bunch of ufos  (unfinished objects)? Who cares if I don't get a certain item done by a certain day? Who cares if I jump from one project to another as the mood strikes me? The gift of knitting is the "process" as much if not more than the "product", especially for those of us with chronic pain and fibro!

I invite you to join me in a re-energizing of our craft! A new way of looking at knitting...

Knitting is our PLEASURE! We are free when we knit or paint or any other craft. There are no rules or deadlines. There are no limits. If it isn't fun anymore, put it aside and find another project idea that inspires you.

what do you think??? K

I find myself doing that, too - must finish this before starting that, especially.  but I know that it's for my own good, usually.  And if I just can't resist and must start the next project, the yarn I'm working on at the moment may not want to be what I'm trying to make it be.  Sometimes if I just set it aside and come back to it later, it can better explain how it wants to be used.  At other times, it's working out perfectly and just a matter of time till it's finished and happy.  That's when I push myself to finish what I'm working on and then I can more happily move on to the next project.

that is the perfect way to avoid the "feeling guilty" stuff. Sort out when you just need a little break or do you really need to rethink the project from scratch! Thanks!
