Spine Stimulator
I am in the beginning of the process to have the first of two spine stimulators implanted in my spine and I'm curious to see if anyone else has ever had one of these implanted. The process is a bit involved too. First, your pain mgmt specialist or rheumatologist will suggest it to you. Then you have to see a psychologist to be mentally cleared, then your insurance plan must approve you. Then you meet with a neurosurgeon to discuss the implant. Then you can finally have the implant. Becuase I have spinal disorders in all three sections of my spine, I will have the first implant in my upper spine, and eventually have the second one in my lower spine.
Basically, a spine stimulator is surgically implanted and catheterized into your spinal canal. The unit alters the electrical impulses that run between your nerve and your brain, thereby reducing the level of pain you feel.
Has anyone else dealt with one of these? What was your experience with this?
