Fibromyalgia Doctors

The biggest thing for me has been trying to locate a physician that is up to date with Fibromyalgia and is experience in treating it.  For those of you in the North Carolina/South Carolina area.  It would be benefecial to all of us in the area and to those who may have recently moved to the area to post any physicians that you recomend and what type of physician they are.

Thanks!!

I have been seeing Dr. Josette Johnson in Greenville for 16 years.  She is a Rhuematoligist in Greenville, SC  at the Piedmont Arthritis Clinic at the St. Francic complex. 864 235-8396. She is WONDERFUL!!  I see her every 3 months.  She take most insurances and will prescribe generics whenerver possible. Several years ago I got tired of driving 40 miles each way and decided I would let my local GP take care of things.  That was fine until something changed in my condition.  They had been doing what I told them to do which was to give me the prescriptions Dr Johnson had been giving me.  Well I got into a real mess!  They had no idea what to do for me.  I went back to Dr. Johnson and she welcomed me home.  She knows more about Fibro than anyone I know.  She stays on top of new research and drug treatments.  We do blood work every 9 to 12 months.  GPs in my area are getting better at accepting fibro as a legitamate illness but they don't know how to treat it.  One doctor looked at my list of medications and said, " I don't prescribe Lortab!" ( I only use it for breakthrough pain).  I said, "I'm not asking you to!  I have a qualified specialist who takes care of my Fibro.  I need you to take care of food poisoning!"   He thought I was Dr. hopping to get drugs.  We got along OK after that.

I highly reccomend Dr Johnson if Greenville is within reach.  It depends on how far you are willing to go for a good doctor who understands this. You will need a referral from your Dr.  If your GP says you don't need to see a Rheumatoligist----- You need a new GP.  Tell her I sent you.

I can't really recommend a doctor because I don't feel that I have been to an expert in FM.  I was going to a great doc who worked with me until we found what worked, but I switched drs because she was too unaccessible.  She only works 3 morning a week.  Her name is Dr Wilma Resto-Flores with First Charlotte Physicians (uptown) in Charlotte.  Now I am going to Dr Knish at Mecklenburg Medical Group. They told me he has helped alot of people with FM but I think he thinks I am doing what is appropriate for me.  recently he did tell me to up my tramadol to 2Xs a day and I think that has helped.  I guess i am just expecting a miracle worker and until then I probably won't be satisfied.

Hello I used Sarah Stapleton from Musc here in Charleston She isvery knowledgeable about fms she works well with me, we have been putting together a team and she really listens to what  I have to say , we work together and she takes time to dicuss things with me regaurding my treatment . Her office staff is wonderful, I also like my Rheumy Jenifer Murphy also of Musc her office staff is horrible. My pain Doc is also in MUSC Dr. Arthur Smith and I would recommend him highly. I moved here from New York 6 years ago and it took me some time to get this team going . Was a few hit and misses in the start

I am in need of a good GP/Internest in the Anderson - Greenville.  I had a team of doctors in Michigan but have been lost down here.  I've been to one a neighbor told me about but do not want to return.  After a medication blunder I don't trust her.  Anyone in this area have a suggestion?  I need someone soon!!!

I am trying to find a good fibro specialist for my mother in the Greenville, SC area.  She will be moving in a month or so and will be about halfway between there and Columbia, so someone near either city would be okay.
