Kava Kava
Kava Kava (Piper methysticum) is a herb originally found in Hawaii and the West Pacific. It has been used traditionally for anxiety but it also has the benefit of relaxing the muscles and helps relax you for sleep and calm the mind.
It can be bought over the counter in pill form or as a tincture but I have had the most benefit with buying the powdered herb at the health food store and making a tea. I get the teabags that you can seal with an iron or make/buy an unbleached muslin bag and add 1-1 1/2 tsp of the ground herb. Add hot water and let it steep until it is cool enough to drink. I add honey or pure cane sugar to taste and sip when I am having a really bad muscle spasm day, bad muscle tension and recurrent insomnia.
When you drink it in tea form or chew the tablets (not the capsules) it will numb your tongue and throat. So this is wonderful for a sore a throat or mouth.
As with anything and everything, moderation is the key. I use it when I am having an especially bad day because it will make you feel in a 'dream-like' state with a slight feeling of euphoria. So it really helps with anxiety and anxious feelings.
If you think it is something you want to try, research it and ask me any questions about my experiences with it. I have been learning herbalism since I was 14 (almost 26 years now) so should be able to help with most questions.
Hopefully this can help someone else out there!
