Myofascial Release Therapy

gc

Has anyone experienced this therapy?

It is not cheap and not sure if insurance will cover expense as physical therapy.
I have gone for 3 sessions and I believe it has helped.
The therapist is very nice.
she has taken the courses from this practitioner. http://www.myofascialrelease.com/fascia_massage/public/default.asp
I am learning to breath deeply to release the pain as well.

I haven't had this but it is basically what my shiatsu massager does. It's very painful, but oh it hurts so good. It breaks loose the tight tissue and releases lactic acid buildup from the muscles. (That makes me kind of queasy sick till my body gets rid of it). The thing I like about my massager is that I can control the pain and I think that allows me to tolerate more than I could if a person was doing it. I sit with tears running down my face and I hate the bruisy feeling, but movement is improved. I have burned one up and my dog just chewed through the cord of my latest one. My ability to move has way decreased.

It is different than shiatsu lynette.

you are talking about a gadget? not a person?
what you are describing sounds like deep tissue massage.
the myofascial release does not cause pain.
sorry to hear your ability to move has decreased

I haven't tried.  I have tried deep tissue massage and I couldn't handle it, you are more of a woman than me Lynette!!!

I wish that I could take it.  I would also like to do the heated stones, alas insurance won't pay for it and I can't afford it.

I had deep tissue before I was diagnosed.  It hurt more than it helped in the long run.

Just recently did stone and I must say I wish I was rich it could be addicting. ;-)

I have myofascial release massage before my acupuncture by the same doc.  He is with UCLA East West Medicine and you are right.  It doesn't hurt.  I have the release, then acupuncture, and then they give me lidocaine injections in the most painful areas.  I have noticed relief from it and they say I should see more and they will reevaluate in 2-3 months.
My Chiro in Lancaster SAID she was giving me myofascial release and it was totally different.  It hurt, especially the trigger point release.  I guess the terminology isn't specific.  Too new probably or at least not researched as much of the treatment for fibro.
